About the Event

The Japanese concept of Ma, often described as a pause in time, a gap, interval, or emptiness in space, can be seen as integral to the whole. These apparent absences hold essence, meaning, and impact, such as the spaces between individual words on a page, the intervals between musical notes, and the gaps between stitches on a cloth. This exhibition seeks to explore the significance of these ‘in-between spaces’ in both material and narrative senses, through the works of a group of artists situated in various cultural landscapes, expressed through contemporary fibre art. The works demonstrate possibilities of form and content to create an unfolding narrative, including self-referential storylines, the communicative nature of material and matter, objects of meaning, sense of place, people, and spirit.
Free event.
