How do I find out when the collection truck is picking up verge collection waste in my area?
The City alerts residents about the upcoming verge collections through the local newspaper, annual Waste Guide, Rates Booklet, and the City’s website. The easiest way is to use the Near Me tool on the City’s website. The information will only provide you with the week the collection is occurring in your area. The City is unable to give a specific day for your property and residents are asked to have the waste on the verge by 6am on the Monday the collection starts in your area (even if the Monday is a public holiday). This will ensure that your verge waste is collected.
My verge collection waste was not picked up by the truck while it was in my area, what do I do?
Contact the Waste Alliance Customer Service Centre on 9587 4660 or email: MHwaste@cleanaway.com.au
Can I place my verge collection waste on a vacant property nearby?
No, all verge collection waste should be placed on your own verge (preferably the front verge if you live on a corner). The City may allow verge waste to be placed on a vacant property under exceptional circumstances and only with prior written approval from the City.
What materials can I put out to be picked up in the junk and metal verge collection?
General waste and junk, whitegoods (doors must be removed for safety reasons), scrap metal and timber products. The City asks that the scrap metal and whitegoods are placed in a separate pile from the junk as this material is recycled. More information on the types of items that cannot be collected are detailed above in the verge collection area.
What green waste can I put out to be picked up in the green waste verge collection?
Garden pruning’s, tree lopping’s (less than 1.5 m in length and trunk diameter less than 30cm), palm leaves and tree limbs, branches and small logs (less than 1.5 m in length and trunk diameter less than 30cm). Please note there is a volume restriction of 2m3 which will be enforced. Excess green waste above the 2m3 volume can be taken to the City’s Waste Management Centre located at 80 Corsican Place, Parklands.
Do I still place my waste on the verge if there is a storm forecast and it is likely that it may blow around the street?
There are strict timelines to ensure the verge collection is completed on time and as per the scheduled dates, so the contractor will continue to collect verge waste regardless of the weather conditions. If a storm is expected during the verge collection, the City would ask that you present the waste on the verge on Monday morning that the collection starts in your area. The City normally issues alerts and warning to the community prior to a major storm event, and any deviation to the normal verge collection requirements would be addressed through those alerts and warnings.
I have lots of waste to place on my verge for pick up, how am I best to display/place it?
Please note that there are volume restrictions for the verge collections. Only 2m3 of green waste and 3m3 of junk material are permitted to be placed on the verge for each collection. Volume limits are strictly enforced. Green waste should be placed on the verge in an orderly fashion with cut ends facing the street. Green waste should be no longer than 1.5m in length and logs should have a diameter of no more than 30cm. Excess waste can be taken to the Waste Management Centre located at 80 Corsican Place, Parklands. Disposal fees will apply if a valid voucher cannot be presented.
How often do verge collections take place in a year?
The City provides two green waste verge collections and one junk verge collection to residential premises each year. The green waste verge collections are held between May and August, and October and December each year. The junk verge collection is held between February and May.
Does verge collection pick up occur on public holidays?
Yes, the City's verge collection contractor works on public holidays, so it is recommended that waste is placed on the verge the weekend prior to the collection commencing in your area.
