Illustrated map showing carpark at Tims Thicket Road
Carpark upgrades and improved management of beach access is on the way for Tims Thicket Road in Mandurah’s south, part of the Yalgorup National Park eco-tourism project.

The City of Mandurah is working with the State Government to unlock the potential of Yalgorup National Park, opening it up for a range of environmentally sustainable tourism offerings including accommodation, recreation and commercial opportunities.

Another step towards this vision was made at Tuesday night’s Mandurah Council meeting. Council agreed to make the necessary administrative changes to a portion of Tims Thicket Road which would allow the Department of Biodiversity and Conservation (DBCA) to formalise a carpark and access routes in this area.

The upgraded carpark (at the beach end of Tims Thicket Road) would be constructed and managed by DBCA, and beach access for 4WDs will remain.

For the City to legally pass the responsibility of the carpark to DBCA, the portion of Tims Thicket Road that will include the carpark is required to be formally “closed” by the City, and a new A Class reserve under management of the DBCA will be created.

All costs associated with these changes will be funded by a State Government election commitment received by the City for the Yalgorup National Park eco-tourism project.

The eco-tourism activation is a City of Mandurah project in partnership with the DBCA and is funded by the WA Government via Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) through the Peel Development Commission (PDC), and City of Mandurah.
