That’s right, it’s time for you and your little ones to enjoy the new and improved Eastern Foreshore!

Just in time for the long weekend (and Crab Fest in the coming weeks), construction of the refreshed and revamped space is now complete, which means it’s time to gather the family and make the most of the brand-new playground, shelters by the water’s edge, grassed spaces and barbecue areas.

The opening of the new playground marks the end of the final stage of the Eastern Foreshore north and central renewal project, which included upgrades covering the area from the Mandurah Visitor Centre at the northern end of the foreshore heading south to the newly constructed toilet block.

The nautical theme of the playground has been designed to showcase and pay tribute to Mandurah’s history as one of Western Australia’s most popular coastal cities. Elements such as buoys, boating equipment, crab scoops and fishing lures are featured across the new space, and we’ve been able to reuse the much-loved yellow boat from the previous playground.

These key features have helped weave Mandurah’s unique history into our newest play space, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone.

The renewal project has also greatly improved accessibility at the playground, with a new Sway Fun Glider, open-entry carousel and multiple swing options all included.

Further accessibility improvements made across the entire Eastern Foreshore include new rear-accessible ACROD parking bays, new communications boards (to be installed soon) and a wider path network that connects the main promenade to the new shelters by the water for the first time. The parking layout also includes a drop-off / pick-up area to make for a smoother and safer traffic flow.

The renewal has also enhanced safety in the area, with new lighting installed to help enhance the amenity at night. The playground is also fully fenced around its perimeter, which was added to the design following feedback from our community.

The northern end of the foreshore has also been reinvigorated, with larger alfresco areas and more open spaces around our amazing local businesses. It’s the perfect space to enjoy a cuppa or support our local vendors.

There’s plenty of great new things to see and do at our renewed Eastern Foreshore. Come on down for a play, picnic or just to unwind on the grass today!
