A World Cup cricket player, an athletics champion, badminton and water polo players, and outstanding local teams, clubs and volunteers were among the big winners at the 2022 City of Mandurah Sports Awards announced late last month.

Close to 150 people attended the gala dinner, held at the Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club, celebrating the achievements of local sports role models, volunteers, teams and clubs who have achieved sporting success at an elite level, or made a significant contribution to sport in Mandurah.

This year, the City received close to 90 nominations across 11 categories.

Mayor Rhys Williams congratulated the night’s big winners and nominees, highlighting their important and outstanding contributions to sport and recreation in Mandurah throughout the year.

“Mandurah is proud to have a strong and successful sporting community, from grass-roots players, teams and clubs, to our elite sporting stars and teams who are achieving amazing things locally, nationally and internationally,” he said.

“Some standout sporting stars have been awarded this year, and we wish them every success in the future. Sport is such a big part of the Mandurah lifestyle, as it connects our community, builds self-esteem and strengthens mental and physical health. I’d also like to recognise our dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to make many sports a huge success in Mandurah.

“Big congratulations also goes to the teams and clubs who have worked hard throughout the year to make sport more inclusive and accessible to all. This ensures that everyone, no matter their ability, has access to community sports.”
