The City of Mandurah is encouraging the community to have a say on a review of the city’s ward boundaries and councillor representations by completing a short survey.
As per the Local Government Act 1995, every local government is required to review its ward boundaries and councillor representation at least every eight years. Mandurah’s last review was done in 2014.
The review will assess Mandurah’s current arrangements and evaluate a range of options to find a system of representation that best suits the characteristics of the district and its people. Mandurah currently has four wards – East, Town, Coastal and North – with three councillors per ward, plus the Mayor.
At the September Council meeting, Council endorsed a discussion paper which details the current ward system, the review process and options for how the community can provide feedback.
There are five options outlined in the discussion paper, which have been designed to encourage conversation and input from the community, and people are also welcome to suggest alternative options.
Two of the options include retaining the ward system, and three of the options include removing the wards altogether. Three of the options also include reducing the number of councillors down to eight or 10.
There are a number of ways to have your say and submit the survey:
- Go to www.mandurahmatters.com.au and complete the online survey,
- Complete the survey questions and return via email to governance@mandurah.wa.gov.au
- Return a hard copy of the survey to the City of Mandurah Administration Building at 3 Peel Street, Mandurah; or post it to PO Box 210, Mandurah, WA 6210.
Public submissions will close at 4.30pm on Monday, November 14, 2022. To read the official discussion paper and take the survey, go to www.mandurahmatters.com.au
