This year’s Mandurah Junior Council will put the spotlight on road safety, with plans to spread safe messages and awareness throughout local schools and the wider community.
Junior Mayor Tamsyn Hill and Deputy Junior Mayor Zoe Thompson made a public statement to Mandurah Council last week, outlining the Junior Council’s plans to hold a poster competition for all Mandurah primary schools to raise awareness about road safety.
Through the competition, primary school students will be encouraged to learn in a fun and engaging way about being safe near roads, with one of the main messages being ‘stop, look, listen and think’.
The Junior Council is also looking to accompany the competition with an interactive presentation which can be shown at schools. It is anticipated the winning poster will be displayed at local schools and in the wider community.
Mayor Rhys Williams commended the Junior Council for their focus on road safety.
“This is an issue that sadly affects too many people across the community, so I am looking forward to what the Junior Council comes up with,” Mayor Williams said.
“It’s exceptional that young people are not waiting until the future to lead, they are leading right now.”
