Learn the fun photographic technique of light painting in this beginners’ friendly workshop, suitable for ages 14+!

About the Event

Learn the basics of light painting, including how to program the correct camera settings and the equipment to use, during this free, interactive workshop presented by Sharon Meredith Photography. In the three-hour workshop, participants will spend time experimenting with the light painting technique and playing with the reflections in the water to create artistic landscapes.

The workshop will be delivered in collaboration with the Bindjareb Middars, a local indigenous group. At the beginning of the workshop, the Bindjareb Middars will give a cultural acknowledgement and share a cultural story. During the workshop, the dancers will perform in the water, with coloured handheld torches, creating a stunning light display to photograph.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be invited to review and submit their favourite photograph to be showcased by the City of Mandurah in an online gallery.

Participants must bring:

Tripod;
Camera with manual settings and ability to take long exposures;

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT LIGHT PAINTING

Light painting is a photographic technique that uses a moving light source, such as a torch, to add light to a subject while taking long exposures. The technique allows long trails of flowing light to be artistically applied to a photograph. When this technique is used in an outdoor setting surrounded by water, the light reflects to create abstract shapes and glowing colours.
