Sun Safety

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in Australia. The leading cause is too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun and things like solariums.

You can’t see or feel UV rays, so even on cool or cloudy days, they can still harm your skin. UV rays can cause sunburn, tanning, early ageing, eye damage, and skin cancer.

Use sun protection whenever the UV Index is three or higher to stay safe. This can happen at any time of year, not just in summer.

You can check the UV level for your area using the free SunSmart app or by visiting the Bureau of Meteorology website

To ensure the best protection, Cancer Council Australia recommends following the SunSmart steps below:

  1. Slip on covering clothing
  2. Slop on SPF 30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen
  3. Slap on a hat
  4. Seek shade
  5. Slide on some sunglasses

Alcohol Management

The City of Mandurah is committed to fostering a vibrant, safe, and inclusive community where alcohol consumption is managed responsibly. Our Alcohol Management Policy (POL-PBH 04) provides strategic guidance to support a thriving night-time economy while minimising alcohol-related harm. This policy outlines the City’s approach to:

  • Encouraging safer drinking environments through thoughtful planning and design.
  • Supporting responsible service and consumption of alcohol at licensed venues and events.
  • Promoting smaller, food-focused venues and seated drinking environments.
  • Collaborating with community stakeholders and agencies to reduce alcohol-related impacts such as crime, noise, and health issues.

The City also champions alcohol-free celebrations for family-friendly events like New Year’s Eve and Community Christmas Celebrations and ensures inclusive access to entertainment at all City-run events.

By aligning with key planning and safety strategies, this policy reflects community values and aims to balance economic opportunity with public health and wellbeing.
