Homelessness can affect anyone, at any stage of their lives, from any background. Together we can make a difference to support those in need. In Australia, more than 122,000 people experience homelessness on any given night. From couch surfing to living in an emergency shelter, homelessness can look different for everyone.

Homelessness Week (August 5-11) aims to raise awareness of its impact and the importance of providing solutions that make a difference to our community. This year’s theme, “Homelessness Action Now”, emphasises the urgent need for immediate and effective measures to address homelessness in our community.

To mark this important week, two events will be held in Mandurah:

Breaking Barriers Business Breakfast

The City of Mandurah is committed to supporting those in need and working towards long-term solutions to homelessness. Our Homelessness Support Directory provides information on local services and resources available to assist individuals and families living rough.

The City collaborates with community partners to address the needs of vulnerable community members through a variety of initiatives aimed at both immediate relief and long-term solutions.

This includes hosting a HEART (Homeless Engagement Assessment Response Team) site where St Pat’s offers rapid, agile and intensive assertive outreach service. Additionally, the City supports the Peel Community Kitchen which provides nutritious meals, and WestAus Crisis which offers free showers for those in need.

In the longer term, the City has advocated to the State Government for the construction of a Common Ground Facility which will provide much needed accommodation for those experiencing homelessness. In addition to this, the SHERP Social Housing Economic Recovery Package housing initiative is underway near the Mandurah Train Station.

We encourage all community members to participate in these events, learn more about the challenges of homelessness, and discover how you can make a difference.

By working together, we can create a supportive and inclusive community for everyone.
