It’s National Road Safety Week (May 5-12), and the City of Mandurah is reminding everyone to take responsibility and action towards preventing road accidents.

Every year, approximately 1200 people are killed and another 40,000 are seriously injured on Australian roads.  Traffic injury is the biggest cause of death of Australian children aged under 15 and the second-biggest cause of death cause of death of all Australians aged between 15 and 24. These numbers are growing every year, but are preventable if we choose to adopt this years theme and 'Drive So Others Survive!'

To support the initiative, the iconic Mandurah Bridge will light up yellow during National Road Safety Week, in support of those affected by road trauma.

Residents are encouraged to participate in National Road Safety Week by adhering to speed limits, avoiding distractions while driving, wearing seat belts, and obeying traffic laws. Additionally, motorists are reminded to be mindful of vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists, especially in high-traffic areas.

The City of Mandurah encourages residents to take the pledge to "drive so others survive". By committing to safe driving practices and looking out for one another on the roads, we can strive towards reducing the number of fatalities.

Residents can also attend Road Trauma Support WA and the City of Mandurah for a one-hour information session on Thursday, May 16 to become better informed on how to utilise the road Trauma Support services.  on Thursday, May 16.  For more information or to make a booking, please contact health@mandurah.wa.gov.au.

National Road Safety Week is an annual initiative from the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group, partnering road safety organisations and Government.
