Applications are closing soon for the City of Mandurah’s annual youth art competition and exhibition.
The call is out for young, budding artists to showcase their works in Contemporary Art Spaces Mandurah’s (CASM) long-standing Masterpieces Youth Competition and Exhibition.
Organisers of this year’s Masterpieces 2K23 competition are on the hunt for artists aged 12 to 25 years to get involved.
Entries will be judged across separate age categories, and there is a combined prize pool of $2500 up for grabs, supported by local business Terrace Art Framers along with ManPAC and the City of Mandurah.
There is also the opportunity for young artists to be a part of Junior Masterpieces which will showcase artists aged five to 11 years.
The competition presents a great opportunity for young Mandurah artists to have their works presented at a professional gallery.
The Masterpieces program also creates creative learning opportunities and experiences for emerging artists.
Both Masterpieces 2K23 exhibitions encourage artists to create work in their chosen mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture and digital media. The theme of the competition is open, with artists encouraged to explore current social and critical topics that are important to them.
This year, CASM Youth Artist in Residence Alex Winner will be presenting two workshops teaching artists how to create their own art videos and translate them into projections to be mapped over three-dimensional shapes. The workshops will culminate in an art installation at the Masterpieces exhibition in April.
Applications for both Masterpieces 2K23 and Junior Masterpieces are now open, and are closing soon on Friday, April 14. Final artwork is due by Friday, April 21.
Masterpieces 2K23 Exhibition will be on display at the CASM gallery. CASM has partnered with the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre (ManPAC) for the Junior Masterpieces Exhibition to be displayed in ManPAC’s upstairs Mezz Gallery.
Both exhibitions will run from 28 April until 28 May 2023.
