Peel Street - one of Mandurah’s main entry roads - is being transformed to create greater connectivity in the local road networks.

A complete road reconstruction is underway, and involves widening Peel Street to continue the east-west road link from the Mandurah Transit Station to the City Centre.

The overall works on Peel Street run from Anstruther Road to Sutton Street and are being completed in stages.

The northern lane configuration between Anstruther Road and Chepstow Drive has been completed, including the future central medians. There is also a temporary shared path arrangement in place.

However the works are not yet finished, and construction of the southern lanes between Anstruther Road and Chepstow Drive, and the remaining road works between Chepstow Drive and Sutton Street, will commence after Western Power has completed the undergrounding of power.

Once Western Power has completed its works, expected to commence in late 2021, City crews will be able to continue road construction works to finish the project in 2022, subject to funding approvals.

The staged process allows the City to work with the external funding provided by the State and Federal Governments, as well as minimising the impact to the public and installation of new infrastructure including public utilities.

The City is also completing some other site works to the properties that have had their frontages reduced to allow for the road widening. This includes fencing, surveying the property boundaries and irrigation works including moving a number of bores.

The overall Peel Street project has been estimated to cost $6m, including the sinking of power lines by Western Power. The majority of funding is provided by the State and Federal Governments (approximately $4m) with the remainder coming from the City. More funding for the project will be available in the next financial year.
