Pre-Forum Activity:
The Peel Development Commission is offering an exclusive opportunity for our delegates to meet and hear from some of the visionary minds behind the highly successful Thomas Dambo’s Giants of Mandurah project. This special workshop will be presented by FORM Building a State of Creativity, which is renowned for its exceptional arts trail development.
Thomas Dambo’s Giants of Mandurah was initiated, produced and managed by FORM Building a State of Creativity, delivered in collaboration with the City of Mandurah, and supported by the State Government through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and Lotterywest; plus the City of Subiaco and Alcoa Foundation.
Mandurah’s Giants are not just art installations—they’re a transformative journey of self-discovery. These magnificent wooden sculptures are designed to inspire stewardship and foster a deep connection to the Peel region’s breathtaking natural environment. But there's more to it: the artistic narrative and environmental message are deeply intertwined with the stories of the local Bindjareb people, bringing a rich cultural perspective to this installation.
This pre forum workshop on the Thursday afternoon will reveal how these incredible sculptures came to life and how the holistic approach behind their creation has not only garnered success but has also firmly placed Mandurah on the tourism map. You’ll hear firsthand how art, culture, and nature have come together to create something truly special for the region.
After the discussion, we’ll give you time for self-reflection and creative brainstorming so you can think about how you might bring your own impactful projects to life in your own community.
And to wrap up this extraordinary afternoon, we’re taking you on a unique experience. Cruise Mandurah’s serene inlets and waterways to visit Giant Seba’s Song, enjoying a stunning view of this monumental sculpture from the water, perfectly positioned along the edge of the Dawesville Cut.
This is an afternoon full of creativity, inspiration, and exploration—an opportunity you won’t want to miss. Join us and immerse yourself in the magic of Thomas Dambo’s Giants of Mandurah!
