About the Event
Curious about making electronic music but don’t know where to start? Electronic musician Oz Kesik (Plyanci) is here to help in this free workshop hosted by Tone List, as part of their Audible Edge Festival program. This workshop will teach you to use the free computer software VCV Rack, and give you an understanding of the basics of synthesis for making sounds and music. This can be a stepping stone to using all kinds of synthesisers - whether they be VST instruments in Ableton or hardware modular or keyboard instruments.
The workshop will offer a bit of historical context around synthesis, before speaking about the basic building blocks of synthesiser sounds: oscillators, filters and modulation. The workshop will then teach patching and routing techniques towards making your first sound-making synthesiser patch to play with.
Participants must bring:
- Laptop with VCV Rack downloaded; and
- Headphones.
Workshop information:
- Saturday, 15 October, from 1.30 – 3pm
Location:
Festival Hub, Eastern Foreshore Reserve
