About the Event
Plein Air Down Under, Australia’s largest outdoor painting festival, is held around Mandurah’s cultural precinct and the historic town of Pinjarra. The event features awards and prizes, feature artists, youth involvement, demonstrations and two art exhibitions.
Festivities commence from 17 September, see below for the Festival Weekend program:
Saturday, 21 September

Mandurah Performing Arts Centre
9am-3pm
Portrait Painting Demo and/or Professional Development Presentations – Register for one or both of these two hour high quality events by international artists Tony Robinson (Ireland) and Lori Putnam (USA), and while you are there, have a look at the Spirit of the Landscape Exhibition.
3pm-6pm
Plein Air Painting, Activities and Entertainment – Bring the family along for an afternoon of spectacular art! Mandjar Square will come alive with painting, live music and free art activities for all ages. Plus, you can witness magic as the artists translate their environment onto canvas! From 6pm onwards, enjoy a Panel Discussion and activities inside ManPAC.
Sunday 22 September
Edenvale Heritage Precinct and Town Centre, Pinjarra
10am-4pm
Plein Air Painting, Activities and Entertainment – Enjoy a day in Pinjarra as the Plein Air Down Under artists paint around the Edenvale Heritage Precinct and town centre. Live music, painting demonstrations, free art activities for all ages and the morning Peel Produce Markets.
Monday 23 September
Mandjar Square & Mandurah Performing Arts Centre
8.30am-1pm
Quick Draw – This two-hour painting activity is designed to flex your artistic skills! With registrations opening at 8.30am and painting commencing at 10am, this event is open to the public and the perfect opportunity to give painting a try. (Tickets: $20 each)
1.30pm onwards
Awards and Exhibition Opening – Wrap up your outdoor painting festival experience by visiting the Plein Air Down Under exhibition in ManPAC, viewing the Award Ceremony and maybe buying some artwork for yourself!
