Mental health and wellbeing in Mandurah will be in the spotlight this month for Mental Health Week.
Mental Health Week (7 – 14 October) provides an opportunity to promote effective techniques in keeping the community mentally healthy. The theme this year is ‘Mind. Body. Environment,’ and knowing how these three elements intersect is vital to our overall wellbeing.
The City of Mandurah is joining forces with local health support agencies and community groups to host a series of events that will raise the awareness of mental health issues, teach practical coping skills, and improve overall community health and wellbeing.
A highlight of the week is the Peel Wellness Wednesday event, to be held on Mandurah’s Eastern Foreshore on October 4. The event will feature a variety of activities and entertainment, with more than 50 local service providers participating to share information and resources with the community. Everyone is encouraged to join the day and learn how to keep mentally healthy.
The Spring Into Life event at Lakelands shopping Centre on Saturday, October 7 is aimed at breaking the stigma of mental health. The event will feature displays on mental health and wellbeing, superhero meet and greets, face painting, crafts, games, activities, and live entertainment by local singers during ‘Inspiring Passionate Lives’ Radio’s Spring into Life Song Quest. This event is suitable for the whole family.
Increase your knowledge about Mental Health Recognition & Response at a special workshop on October 12. Participants will learn about the different types of mental health conditions, warning signs, and treatments. The course will teach people about signs to recognise when someone is going through a hard time, plus information and tools to assist friends, family members or colleagues to seek help or find supports.

The City and its partners have also developed a Health and Wellbeing Guide, which highlights local groups who promote social inclusion and connection, information on key services, and tips for talking to your GP about mental health related issues.
