Mosquito management is an important community service that serves to protect public health and the outdoor lifestyle we enjoy here in Mandurah and the Peel region so we know it's important to keep our community informed on mosquito management activities and what you can do to protect yourself from mosquitoes.

In recent weeks mosquito breeding has been heightened throughout the Peel region with persistent tidal flooding to the wetland breeding grounds and favourable environmental conditions promoting their breeding cycles.

Since the start of the 2022/2023 season eighteen 18 aerial larvicide treatments have been completed across Mandurah and the Peel region resulting in 4,542.3 hectares being treated to date.

Details of the most recent aerial larvicide treatments are below.

  • 28 -29 March 2023 – 407.2 hectares
  • 21 March 2023 - 232.5 hectares
  • 3 & 4 March 2023 - 383.5 hectares

While our mosquito management program is very effective at reducing the number of mosquitoes, total elimination is not achievable or environmentally desirable.

We encourage you to be mosquito aware and protect yourself from bites and mosquito borne disease all year round.

  • Cover Up – wear long, loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing, covering as much of the body as you can.
  • Repel – When outdoors, apply insect repellent containing DEET (diethyltoluamide), picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus evenly to exposed ski
  • Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus has recently been endorsed by the Western Australia Department of Health as an effective mosquito repellent. Read more on personal insect repellents
  • Clean up – remove, empty or cover water holding containers
