Mental health and wellbeing in Mandurah is in the spotlight this month for Mental Health Week (8-15 October), with several local events and activities planned for the community to get involved. This year’s theme is ‘‘Where we live. How we live. What we’ve lived’, which is all about understanding how the body, mind and environment intersect is essential to overall wellbeing.
As part of Mental Health Week 2022, local health support agencies and community groups have teamed up with the City of Mandurah to offer a series of events aimed at improving health and wellbeing and raising awareness of mental health issues.
A key highlight is the Peel Wellness Wednesday event which will be held on the Eastern Foreshore (north end) on Wednesday 5 October. The event will feature activities and a variety of entertainment that the whole family can enjoy. Over 50 local services will be participating in providing information, resources and merchandise. The community is encouraged to come along and learn how to keep mentally healthy and Act, Belong and Commit.
The City’s Youth, Library and Community Development Team will be at the Lakelands Spring Into life event on Saturday 8 October from 10am to 2pm for the festival of positivity at the Lakelands Shopping Centre. There will be something for everyone with markets, free activities, kids arts and craft, volleyball and live music.
The City and its partners have also developed a Mental Health Week 2022 Health and Wellbeing Guide, which highlights local groups who promote social inclusion and connection, information on key services, and tips for talking to your GP about mental health related issues.
