Visual Story and Supports
Our Visual Story provides a reassuring guide to what to expect at the museum. If someone in your group feels anxious about new environments, you may find it helpful to read this story together before your visit.
Printed copies are also available at the museum.
You can also download and print a range of other visual supports including:
- Communication board - to assist with decision making while at the museum.
Sensory backpacks
We offer sensory backpacks to support visitors who may benefit from extra sensory tools during their visit. Each backpack includes a selection of items such as fidget tools, a torch, magnifying glass, earmuffs, a timer, a scavenger hunt activity, the visiting story, visual supports and a sensory map. These resources are designed to help visitors feel more comfortable and engaged while exploring the museum. If you or someone in your group would like to borrow a sensory backpack, simply ask one of our friendly staff and volunteers.
Staff supports and the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard scheme
Mandurah Museum is a proud member of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard Scheme
Our trained staff and volunteers wear sunflower supporter lanyards and are happy to assist at any time.
We also offer lanyards at the front desk for visitors to borrow during their visit. These provide a discreet way to let staff and volunteers know that someone in your group has a hidden disability.
Please return lanyards at the end of your visit.
Holiday Programs
Mandurah Museum provides an affordable fun holiday program, where parents and children work together to learn the techniques and skills required to complete each activity.
