All dogs over 3 months and all cats over 6 months must be registered. Registration periods run from November 1 to October 31 each year.

Holders of a valid Pensioner Concession Card receive a 50% discount on these fees.
Microchipping: All dogs must be microchipped and registered by 3 months of age.
Tags: Dogs must wear a registration tag and a collar with your name and phone number.
Limit: You can keep up to 2 dogs per property. To keep more, apply for a permit here.
Barking: Constant barking can be a nuisance. You can report barking or nuisance dogs to the City.
Exercise & Leashes:
Dogs must be on a leash in public unless in a designated Dog Exercise Area. Dogs are prohibited in some areas.
You must always carry dog poo bags and clean up after your pet. Fines apply for leaving waste behind.

Responsible ownership and benefit of keeping cats indoors
Keeping cats indoors or in secure outdoor enclosures protects wildlife and keeps cats safe too. Letting cats roam can put your pet in danger from:

1. Declared Dangerous Dogs:
A dog may be declared dangerous if it has:
Caused injury or damage to a person, animal, or vehicle.
Repeatedly shown a tendency to attack or chase.
2. Restricted Breeds:
The following breeds (including mixed breeds carrying these genes) are prohibited under the Dog Regulations 2013:

Dogo Argentino
Fila Brasileiro
Japanese Tosa
Presa Canario
3. Commercial Security Dog:
This is a dog that is kept for the purpose of guarding or protecting premises that are not dwellings.
Strict Rules Apply:
Registration: Dangerous and restricted dogs cannot be registered online. You must register them in person at the City Administration Building.
Transfer: It is an offence to sell or give away a dangerous dog (restricted breed).
More Info: Dangerous dogs must wear a prescribed collar, be muzzled and held on a leash at all times in public places.

Reclaiming a Pet from the Pound
To bring your pet home, you will need to pay a release fee and ensure they are registered, microchipped, and (for cats) sterilised before release.
Moved house? Changed phone number? Pet passed away? It is crucial (and a legal requirement) to keep your details up to date so we can contact you if your pet is found.
To change ownership of an animal, you must fill out a Change of Ownership form. Both parties must sign the form before the change can be completed.
