Community helps plant more than 2,000 seedlings on National Tree Day

More than 180 volunteers came together at Coodanup Foreshore Reserve on Sunday, 26 July to plant 2,106 native seedlings as part of this year's National Tree Day, Australia's largest community planting and nature-care initiative. 

Despite some challenging winter weather conditions, volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help restore and protect the foreshore while contributing to a greener, more resilient Mandurah. 

The City thanks everyone who volunteered their time on the day, as well as the community groups, stallholders and staff who helped make the event such a success. 

The annual event focused on protecting and preserving the foreshore, with the selected shrubs and reeds helping to support local wildlife, improve the resilience of the foreshore environment, and enhance one of Mandurah's natural spaces for future generations. Native vegetation also contributes to healthier, more liveable communities by improving environmental outcomes and helping create greener urban environments.

The event also featured a range of environmental and educational displays, providing opportunities for attendees to learn more about local conservation initiatives and the important role native vegetation plays in supporting wildlife and healthy ecosystems. 

The success of this year's National Tree Day highlights the community's ongoing commitment to caring for the environment, now and for future generations.
